This moving documentary marks the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster, in which the collapse of a colliery tip killed 116 children and 28 adults. Featuring testimony from those affected by the tragedy, the documentary provides a vivid insight into the mining communities of south Wales. The programme also reflects how the spirit of Aberfan’s residents endured and how the village rebuilt itself over the years. Shortly after the disaster, a remarkable group of women, including bereaved mothers, got together to form the Aberfan Young Wives Club. They have met every week for 50 years, and the film tells their uplifting and emotional story.
